Jazmyn Grant

It is with great sorrow that we announce that one of our key volunteers, Jazmyn Grant, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly Monday.

For over the last five years, Jazmyn has been a constant and vital member of our organization. She didn’t make headlines or run marathons, but every weekend you would find her at an adoption event - meeting people, showing cats, and dogs, and helping match people to the perfect pet.

With her family she fostered countless strays and orphans who came in lost and scared. She became one of our primary “medical volunteers” - able and willing to handle the crankiest felines needing daily medications to get back to health. Bottlebabies or seniors, she never hesitated.

She and her sister harness trained a number of our cats and were always very popular when they would walk them on leashes in stores or at special events.

Jazmyn was one of those rare people who could be counted on to just “handle things.” Whether it was a terrified or angry cat, half a dozen people all at once crowding around asking questions about the cat she had on a leash, packing up cages and tables after a long day at Petsmart, then loading them in the truck - frequently by herself - she just did it. Without a lot of fuss, always very competently and usually very quickly.

That’s actually one of the best descriptions of Jazmyn. She was competent. Whatever she did, whatever needed to be done. Always with a smile on her face, always willing. As a Director of this organization, I was very grateful because I knew if Jazmyn was handling something, I didn’t have to worry about it. I could just go onto the next problem.

Words cannot convey the hole that she leaves in our organization with her passing.

Jazmyn is survived by her mother, Sarah, her sister and brothers, Samantha, Aaron and Daniel, a number of aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents - and many many friends. She left us way too soon.
